Nigeria stands at a historical juncture in its economic and industrial development. All across the country, home to over 234 million people, communities are embracing solar energy and other renewable technologies, powering livelihoods, expanding opportunity and improving human and environmental health. But the full promise of transformative renewable energy technologies remains out of reach - constrained by high costs, limited technical capacity and uneven access. The potential for Nigeria to develop Renewable Energy Zones promises to change this status quo and turn Nigerian’s desire for a fossil-free future powered by renewables into a tangible reality. These Zones, dotted across Africa, are designed to be shining beacons of a just and inclusive energy future, where policy ambition and community agency combine to deliver green prosperity, resilience and justice. Nigeria is well-placed to become a powerhouse of renewable energy technologies.
